A. Direction to
Apply Fertilizer:
Fertilize in the
spring or in the fall after the leaves have fallen, but before the
ground freezes. Fertilizing in the summer or early fall will cause small
stems and braches to continue growing when they should be hardening for
protection against winter damage. Soak the soil around the tree
thoroughly the day before fertilizing.
B.
Direction for Shade Trees:
Fertilizers should be placed in holes under the drip line of the
tree. The depth of the holes may vary from 8 inches in heavy soil, in
which the roots of the tree are near the surface, to 30 inches in light
or sandy soil. Make holes at regular intervals beneath the drip line of
the trees. Moderate fertilization of newly-planted trees is needed 6 to
12 months after planting. If your soil is a problem, a light application
of Jirdon Tree & Shrub Fertilizer should be applied 1 month after
planting. WATER LIBERALLY.
C.
Directions for Evergreen Trees:
Fertilize EVERGREEN
TREES ONLY IN THE SPRING. Apply one-half as much fertilizer as
recommended in the application chart. Do not concentrate fertilizer in
one area. Evergreen roots extend beyond the branches, so place
fertilizer outside drip line area. WATER LIBERALLY.
D.
Direction for Fruit Trees:
Fruit trees will require more fertilizer then shade trees since they
work harder in providing fruit. Yellow leaves with dark green veins are
a good indication of iron deficiency. Apply maximum rates of fertilizer
recommended.
E.
Directions
for Hedges & Shrubs:
Hedges and shrubs need feeding regularly. Apply 1 pound of fertilizer
for each 1 inch of trunk diameter. Spread uniformly. Apply one-half as
much fertilizer for evergreens. WATER LIBERALLY.
